MADHUBANI (Bihar): On the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched and dedicated development works worth over ₹13,480 crore in Madhubani, Bihar, asserting that the past decade has been transformative for rural India and Panchayati Raj institutions.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister paid tribute to victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack and vowed stringent action. “The willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the back of the perpetrators of terror,” he said, affirming that terrorism will not go unpunished.
Focusing on rural development, Modi said Gram Panchayats are now digitally empowered, with over 2 lakh Panchayats connected to the internet and over 30,000 new Panchayat Bhavans constructed. He highlighted the transfer of ₹2 lakh crore to Panchayats over the past decade, driving local growth and governance.
He also underlined the rural infrastructure gains including 4 crore houses under PMAY, 12 crore tap water connections, and rapid expansion of road, rail, and health infrastructure. Nearly 1.5 lakh families in Bihar received new homes under the PMAY-G scheme, and ₹930 crore in SHG investments were released.
Highlighting Bihar’s cultural identity, the PM said the state’s famed makhana has gained global recognition as a superfood and a dedicated Makhana Board and Food Tech Institute are on the anvil.
The day also saw the launch of the Amrit Bharat Express, Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, and multiple power and railway projects. Modi asserted that development and peace are interlinked and reiterated his vision of a “Viksit Bharat” where inclusive, technology-enabled rural progress drives national transformation.
